Leonardo DiCaprio Wins His First Academy Award for The Revenant at Oscars 2016






  
Leonardo DiCaprio won his first Oscar at the 88th Academy Awards on Sunday, February 28. DiCaprio snagged the trophy for Actor in a Leading Role for his performance in The Revenant.

The long-awaited win -he’s been nominated six times total was surely a surreal moment for the actor, who received a standing ovation while making his way towards the stage.

Thank you all so much The Revenant was a product of the tireless efforts of the cast and crew I got to work alongside DiCaprio, 41, told the crowd, before thanking his costar Tom Hardy for his fierceness on screen and for his friendship off screen.

The environmentalist also addressed climate change during his speech. “Climate change is real it is happening right now. It is the most urgent threat facing our entire species. We need to work together to stop procrastinating, DiCaprio continued. Let us not take this planet for granted, I do not take tonight for granted.
In The Revenant, DiCaprio portrays 19th-century American frontiersman Hugh Glass, who is left for dead by his comrades after being mauled by a bear.


Kate Winslet, who has been on hand to support the actor throughout the awards season, was spotted beaming with pride in the audience.
Fans have been rooting for DiCaprio to have his big moment ever since the Wolf of Wall Street actor lost the 2014 Oscar to Matthew McConaughey. McConaughey snagged Best Actor for his role in Dallas Buyers Club.

Crabbie’s Moscow Mule

This drink is surprisingly complex, like Mad Max: Fury Road, but so incredibly delicious.

Ingredients

3 mint leaves

3/4 oz lime juice

1/2 oz simple syrup

1 1/2 oz vodka

Crabbie’s Original Alcoholic Ginger Beer

Muddle the mint gently in the bottom of your glass. Add the lime juice, simple syrup and vodka, along with 3 or 4 ice cubes. Add a splash of Crabbie’s Alcoholic Ginger Beer.

This recipe, created by Justin Timberlake’s personal Sauza 901 mixologist, Eddy Buckingham, will make you feel like a Hollywood star winning their first Oscar.

Ingredients

2 oz Sauza 901

1 oz Orange Curacao

1 oz fresh lemon juice

1/4 oz agave nectar

1 dash Angostura Orange Bitters

Orange peel

Combine all ingredients except the orange peel in a mixing glass with ice. Shake well for 10 seconds. Strain and pour into a martini glass. Garnish with a twisted orange peel.

The mixture of gin, sherry and rum packs a punch and matches the intensity of the film.

Ingredients

1 1/2 oz Plymouth Gin

1/2 oz Oloroso Sherry

1/2 oz Demerara Rum

Dash of Whiskey Barrel–aged bitters

Rock candy swizzle stick

Stir all ingredients except swizzle stick in ice. Strain over a large ice cube and garnish with a rock candy swizzle stick.

Get ready for your speech, because this cocktail is a winner.

Ingredients

1 oz Amaro Lucano

1/2 oz fresh lemon juice

2 oz San Pellegrino Limonata

Bisol Jeio Prosecco

2 lemon wheels

Ice

Mix Lucano, lemon juice and San Pellegrino. Pour into wine glass, fill with ice, top with prosecco and garnish with lemon wheels.

The Martian: Cherry Bourbon Smash

Puns about smashing into Mars aside, it only seems fitting to pair an “out of this world” drink with this movie.

Ingredients

2–3 maraschino cherries

1/2 oz lemon juice

1 1/2 oz bourbon

Dr Pepper

In the base of a cocktail shaker, muddle maraschino cherries, lemon juice and bourbon. Add ice and shake until cold. Strain into a rocks glass. Top with ice and Dr Pepper.

Room: French Martini

Brie Larson needs something that can match her fierce character in strength and poise, and this concoction just about does the trick.

Ingredients

1 1/2 oz vodka

1/4 oz Chambord black raspberry liqueur

1/4 oz pineapple juice

1 twisted lemon peel

Pour ingredients except lemon peel into shaker with ice, and shake vigorously for 5 to 10 seconds. Pour into a martini glass and garnish with lemon peel.
